Blessed Virgin Mary - Our Mother of Perpetual Help

A SCRIPTURAL ROSARY

FORWARD

Prayer, especially the rosary, has become a central part of my life the last few years. I have been praying a scriptural rosary which has quotations from scriptures before each Hail Mary bead. These scriptures collectively tell the story of each mystery. This method is very helpful for thinking about the events in the life of Jesus and Mary, but I found it very hard, if not impossible, to think about how I could imitate their virtues and apply them to my daily life while saying this rosary.

It occurred to me that what I needed was a second scriptural rosary. This rosary would have scriptural quotations about the most notable virtue demonstrated by Jesus and/or Mary for each incident/mystery in their lives. Since I couldn't find such a rosary anywhere, I wrote this one.Writing this rosary and then praying it through crises, big and small, has helped me to feel closer to my God.

I pray that all those who use this rosary will similarly be drawn closer to God.

HOW TO PRAY THIS SCRIPTURAL ROSARY

FOR ONE PERSON

As you start each decade, think about the significance of the mystery

in the lives of Jesus and Mary; picture this event in your mind.

Next, say the short prayer to Mary asking her to pray for you so that

you might obtain the virtue that this decade represents. As you say

the Our Father, picture Mary presenting your prayer to the Father.

See Our Father smile with the pleasure of granting a worthy request.

Know in your heart that the Father has granted your request even as

you see it happen in your mind.

Then read the short scriptural quotation before praying the first

Hail Mary. Let the meaning of these words soak into your mind as

you pray the first Hail Mary.

Continue in this manner for the rest of the beads in the decade.

FOR TWO OR MORE PEOPLE

The same meditation techniques suggested for one person can also

be used for two or more persons.

Additionally, the prayers and scriptural quotations have been

divided into two parts so they can be used as an alternating prayer.

The first person or the group leader can recite the first part and

the second person or the rest of the group can respond with the

second part. The division between the two parts is marked by a

slash mark (/).

O Dear Mary, please pray to God for me that I might

    Hail Mary

    Good and upright is the Lord;

thus he shows sinners the way./

He guides the humble to justice,

he teaches the humble his way.

    (PS 25:8-9)

    Hail Mary

For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing,/

    he is deluding himself.

    (GAL 6:3)

    Hail Mary

Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you will be your

    servant;/

whoever wishes to be first among you will be the slave of

    all.

    (MK 10:43-44)

    Hail Mary

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and

humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves./

For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.

    (MT 11:29-30)

    Hail Mary

    Humble yourselves before the Lord/

    and he will exalt you.

    (JAS 4:10)

    Hail Mary

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled,/

but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.

    (LK 14:11)

    Hail Mary

He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and

said, Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become

like children, you will not enter the kingdom of

Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest

    in the kingdom of heaven.

    (MT 18:2-4)

    Hail Mary

Who among you is wise and understanding?/

    2. THE VISITATION [Prev] [Next] [Top]

    Prayer:

O Dear Mary, please pray to God for me that I might

grow to sincerely love my neighbor as myself and learn

to show this in all my daily actions as you always did./

    Amen.

    Our Father

    You shall love your neighbor/

    as yourself.

    (MK 12:31)

    Hail Mary

This is the commandment, as you heard from the beginning,/

    in which you should walk.

    (2 JN :6)

    Hail Mary

So faith, hope, love remain, these three;/

but the greatest of these is love.

    (1 COR 13:13)

    Hail Mary

Whoever says he is in the light, yet hates his brother,

    is still in the darkness./

Whoever loves his brother remains in the light, and there

is nothing in him to cause a fall.

    (1 JN 2:9-10)

    Hail Mary

Do to others whatever you would have them do to you./

This is the law and the prophets.

    (MT 7:12)

    Hail Mary

Love your enemies and do good to them, and lend expecting

    nothing back;/

then your reward will be great and you will be children of

the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful

    and the wicked.

    (LK 6:35)

    Hail Mary

Stop judging and you will not be judged. Stop condemning

and you will not be condemned./

Forgive and you will be forgiven.

    (LK 6:37)

    Hail Mary

Sharing your bread with the hungry, sheltering the

    oppressed and the homeless;/

Clothing the naked when you see them, and not turning your

    back on your own.

    (IS 58:7)

    Hail Mary

    Rejoice with those who rejoice,/

    weep with those who weep.

    (ROM 12:15)

    Hail Mary

    Blessed are the merciful,/

for they will be shown mercy.

    Fatima Prayer

    3. THE NATIVITY [Prev] [Next] [Top]

    Prayer:

O Dear Mary, please pray to God for me that I might

always keep my eyes and heart focused on my heavenly

home and always put the love of God and the practice

of virtue ahead of acquiring earthly possessions./

    Amen.

    Our Father

I, the Lord, am your God, who brought you out of the land

of Egypt, that place of slavery./

You shall not have other gods besides me.

    (EX 20:2-3)

    Hail Mary

You shall not carve idols for yourselves...you shall not

bow down before them or worship them./

For I, the Lord, your God, am a jealous God.

    (EX 20:4-5)

    Hail Mary

Therefore, whoever wants to be a lover of the world/

makes himself an enemy of God.

    (JAS 4:4)

    Hail Mary

Do not love the world or the things of the world./

If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not

    in him.

    (1 JN 2:15)

    Hail Mary

What profit is there for one to gain the whole world/

    yet lose or forfeit himself?

    (LK 9:25)

    Hail Mary

So do not worry and say, 'What are we to eat?' or 'What

are we to drink?' or 'What are we to wear?'/

But seek first the kingdom [of God] and his righteousness,

and all these things will be given you besides.

    (MT 6:31,33)

    Hail Mary

Look at the birds in the sky; they do not sow or reap, they

gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds

    them./

Are not you more important than they?

    (MT 6:26)

    Hail Mary

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where

moth and decay destroys, and thieves break in and steal./

But store up treasures in heaven...For where your treasure

is, there also will your heart be.

    (MT 6:19-21)

    Hail Mary

No one can serve two masters. He will either hate one and

love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the

    other./

You cannot serve God and mammon.

    (MT 6:24)

    Hail Mary

Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of

    itself./

Sufficient for a day is its own evil.

    Amen.

    Our Father

Fear God and keep his commandments,/

    for this is man's all.

    (ECCL 12:13)

    Hail Mary

Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not

the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will

    pass from the law,/

until all things have taken place.

    (MT 5:18)

    Hail Mary

In your observance of the commandments of the Lord, your

God, which I enjoin upon you,/

you shall not add to what I command you or subtract from it.

    (DT 4:2)

    Hail Mary

Son though he was, he [Jesus] learned obedience

    from what he suffered;/

and when he was made perfect, he became the source of

eternal salvation for all who obey him.

    (HEB 5:8-9)

    Hail Mary

Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me;/

still, not my will but yours be done.

    (LK 22:42)

    Hail Mary

    You are my friends/

if you do what I command you.

    (JN 15:14)

    Hail Mary

Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the

    kingdom of heaven,/

but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.

    (MT 7:21)

    Hail Mary

Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God/

    and observe it.

    (LK 11:28)

    Hail Mary

Only in God is my soul at rest;/

    from him comes my salvation.

    (PS 62:2)

    Prayer:

O Dear Mary, please pray to God for me that I might

always be truly sorry for my sins, not only because

they hurt me, but also because they wound the

Sacred Heart of Jesus and your own Immaculate Heart

and can cause me to lose Jesus. O dear Mary, if I

    Amen.

    Our Father

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,/

    for they will be satisfied.

    (MT 5:6)

    Hail Mary

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find;/

knock and the door will be opened to you.

    (MT 7:7)

    Hail Mary

As the rising sun is clear to all,/

so the glory of the Lord fills all his works.

    (SIR 42:16)

    Hail Mary

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and

you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked

and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison

    and you visited me./

Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least

brothers of mine, you did for me.

    (MT 25:35-36,40)
