THE SORROWFUL MYSTERIES OF THE ROSARY

1. THE AGONY IN THE GARDEN [Next] [Top]

Prayer:

O Dear Mary, please help me to always pray from my

heart, with confidence, to God for those things that

will truly benefit my loved ones (or myself) in

accordance with God's will./

Amen.

Our Father

In the days when he was in the flesh, he offered prayers

and supplications with loud cries and tears to the one

who was able to save him from death,/

and he was heard because of his reverence.

(HEB 5:7)

Hail Mary

Seek the Lord while he may be found,/

call him while he is near.

(IS 55:6)

Hail Mary

In praying, do not babble like the pagans, who think that

they will be heard because of their many words./

Do not be like them. Your Father knows what you need

before you ask him.

(MT 6:7-8)

Hail Mary

The Lord is near to all who call upon him,

to all who call upon him in truth./

The Lord keeps all who love him,

but all the wicked he will destroy.

(PS 145:18,20)

Hail Mary

Let the words of my mouth and the thought of my heart

find favor before you,/

O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

(PS 19:15)

Hail Mary

To you I lift up my soul, O Lord,...

Your ways, O Lord, make known to me;

teach me your paths,/

Guide me in your truth and teach me,

for you are God my savior,

and for you I wait all the day.

(PS 25:1,4-5)

Hail Mary

Whatever you ask for in prayer with faith,/

you will receive.

(MT 21:22)

Hail Mary

Watch and pray that you may not undergo the test./

The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.

(MT 26:41)

Hail Mary

But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door,

and pray to your Father in secret./

And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.

(MT 6:6)

Hail Mary

Is anyone among you suffering? He should pray./

Is anyone in good spirits? He should sing praise.

(JAS 5:13)

Hail Mary

Glory be to the Father

2. THE SCOURGING AT THE PILLAR [Prev] [Next] [Top]

Prayer:

O Dear Mary, please pray to God for me that I might

always practice chastity in keeping with my state

in life./

Amen.

Our Father

I say, then: live by the Spirit and you will certainly

not gratify the desire of the flesh./

For the flesh has desires against the Spirit, and the

Spirit against the flesh.

(GAL 5:16-17)

Hail Mary

For a person will reap only what he sows, because the one

who sows for his flesh will reap corruption from the flesh,/

but the one who sows for the spirit will reap eternal life

from the spirit.

(GAL 6:7-8)

Hail Mary

Avoid immorality. Every other sin a person commits is

outside the body,/

but the immoral person sins against his own body.

(1 COR 6:18)

Hail Mary

If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy that

person;/

for the temple of God, which you are, is holy.

(1 COR 3:17)

Hail Mary

For God did not call us to impurity/

but to holiness.

(1 Thes 4:7)

Hail Mary

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the holy

Spirit within you, whom you have from God,/

and that you are not your own?

(1 COR 6:19)

Hail Mary

Blessed are the clean of heart,/

for they will see God.

(MT 5:8)

Hail Mary

Put to death, then, the parts of you that are earthly:

immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and the

greed that is idolatry./

And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything

in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God

the Father through him.

(COL 3:5,17)

Hail Mary

Let marriage be honored among all and the marriage bed be

kept undefiled,/

for God will judge the immoral and adulterers.

(HEB 13:4)

Hail Mary

Praise the Lord in his sanctuary,/

praise him in the firmament of his strength.

(PS 150:1)

Hail Mary

Glory be to the Father

3. THE CROWNING WITH THORNS [Prev] [Next] [Top]

Prayer:

O Dear Mary, please pray to God for me that I might

always have the courage to speak out against whatever

is contrary to Jesus' teachings or harmful to my

neighbor or my own soul. At the same time, please

pray that I might always be tactful and considerate of

the feelings of others and never become self-righteous./

Amen.

Our Father

The Lord is my light and my salvation;/

whom should I fear?

(PS 27:1)

Hail Mary

He said to them, Go into the whole world and proclaim the

gospel to every creature./

Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever

does not believe will be condemned.

(MK 16:15-16)

Hail Mary

I command you: be firm and steadfast! Do not fear nor

be dismayed,/

for the Lord, your God, is with you wherever you go.

(JOS 1:9)

Hail Mary

Bless those who persecute [you],/

bless and do not curse them.

(ROM 12:14)

Hail Mary

I will proclaim your name to my brethren;/

in the midst of the assembly I will praise you.

(PS 22:23)

Hail Mary

My help is from the Lord,/

who made heaven and earth.

(PS 121:2)

Hail Mary

You will be hated by all because of my name,/

but whoever endures to the end will be saved.

(MT 10:22)

Hail Mary

Put on the armor of God/

so that you may be able to stand firm against the tactics

of the devil.

(EPH 6:11)

Hail Mary

But rejoice to the extent that you share in the

sufferings of Christ,/

so that when his glory is revealed you may also rejoice

exultantly.

(1 PT 4:13)

Hail Mary

For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice/

but rather of power and love and self-control.

(2 TM 1:7)

Hail Mary

Glory be to the Father

Fatima Prayer

4. THE CARRYING OF THE CROSS [Prev] [Next] [Top]

Prayer:

O Dear Mary, please pray to God for me that I might

always endure my trials and sufferings with patience

and complete resignation to the will of God./

Amen.

Our Father

Blessed is the man who perseveres in temptation,/

for when he has been proved he will receive the crown of

life that he promised to those who love him.

(JAS 1:12)

Hail Mary

Sorrow is better than laughter,/

because when the face is sad the heart grows wiser.

(ECCL 7:3)

Hail Mary

But to you who hear I say, love your enemies,/

do good to those who hate you.

(LK 6:27)

Hail Mary

But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil./

When someone strikes you on [your] right cheek, turn the

other one to him as well.

(MT 5:39)

Hail Mary

When cares abound within me,/

your comfort gladdens my soul.

(PS 94:19)

Hail Mary

If the world hates you,/

realize that it hated me first.

(JN 15:18)

Hail Mary

Those that sow in tears/

shall reap rejoicing.

(PS 126:5)

Before I was afflicted I went astray,/

but now I hold to your promise.

(PS 119:67)

Hail Mary

God is faithful and will not let you be tried beyond

your strength;/

but with the trial he will also provide a way out, so

that you may be able to bear it.

(1 COR 10:13)

Hail Mary

For this momentary light affliction is producing for us/

an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison.

(2 COR 4:17)

Hail Mary

Glory be to the Father

5. THE CRUCIFIXION [Prev] [Top]

Prayer:

O Dear Mary, please pray to God for me that I might

always practice self-denial in everything I think, do,

and say, so that I might ever choose to suffer with

Jesus rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of

sin./

Amen.

Our Father

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of

righteousness,/

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

(MT 5:10)

Hail Mary

In the world you will have trouble,/

but take courage, I have conquered the world.

(JN 16:33)

Hail Mary

For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,/

but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.

(LK 9:24)

Hail Mary

When he was insulted, he returned no insult;

when he suffered, he did not threaten;/

instead, he handed himself over to the one who judges

justly.

(1 PT 2:23)

Hail Mary

Fear not, I am with you;

be not dismayed; I am your God./

I will strengthen you, and help you,

and uphold you with my right hand of justice.

(IS 41:10)

Hail Mary

Then Jesus said to his disciples,/

Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself,

take up his cross, and follow me.

(MT 16:24)

He indeed died for all, so that those who live might no
